Concept
ADRIA-CAT 40 is an ideal combination of comfort and performance for cruising. She offers standing headroom on the bridge-deck, separate aft cabins, more load and twin engines isolated from the accommodation without compromising the beauty and sea kindliness.
She is a good cruising catamaran with wide beam, good buoyancy, short bridge-deck high above the water to avoid slamming, minimum windage with very good windward ability and she is unsinkable. She easy takes the ground on her keels which are faired into the hulls curve of areas. Long waterline length and semi-circle sections offer high performance. Her efficient rig is easily handled with lazy-jacks and jib roller. Light weather sails are set from the cocpit. The accommodation offers lots of space and privacy to live aboard - 3 double cabins, a panoramic saloon and separate aditional cabin. The galley is in the central cabin. The cockpit is comfortable and well sheltered while there is enough lockers to store all the cruising gear.
Designed for voyaging, ADRIA-CAT 40 benefits from strong scantlings and reinforcements between hulls to cope with unwanted chocks and a homogeneous structure for a long life. ADRIA-CAT 40 was designed for sandwich construction. Vinylester resin has been used. Quadriaxial glass cloths has been used as the best compromise cost/lightness/strength. Aramid cloths are specified under the waterline and on reinforcements in a single skin laminate to further improve impact strength against wrecks or unwanted groundings. The keels are single skin fibreglass laminated with the hull. Accommodation is part of the structure. The fore beam is of aramid- carbon construction. Its shape is aerodynamic and it is very convenient to handle anchors or light weather sails.
Rigging
The fractional rig with carbon mast has proved itself the most efficient. It is a good cruising rig less demanding on headsails. The large main give easy control in all conditions. A large rig is a good choice even for cruising. It gives power to the boat, improves pointing ability and reduces pitching. It is better to use larger working sails in medium conditions than stressing light weather sails on an under canvassed design.
ADRIA-CAT 40 has a heavy-weather staysail which is a bonus in bad conditions. Her masthead drifter, genaker or spinnaker give remarkable light weather performance.
Spectra sails are chosen to keep their ideal profile in a breeze and ensure longlasting.

Layout
The basic layout provides good live aboard comfort for four adults, but enough place to sleep six + one on shorter trips. The bridge-deck has a panoramic saloon to seat 6, a proper chart-table and a convenient galley against the cabin bulkhead.
The navigation desk in the saloon is big enough to use classical charts beside computer display. The 360 degrees view enable comfortable steering from the cabin using a joystick and not only enjoying nice view on the anchor.
The two aft cabins are comfortable. A shower with toilet in one hull and the small toilet on the other hull avoid queuing while keeping plumbing as simple as possible. The forward cabin may have two single berths instead of the double in other hull is additional cabin or storeroom. Many lockers are available so that everything is stowed at the right place.
Deck plan
Wheel steering in central position would be my first choice to enjoy in cruising. All the winches are at the right place for ease of handling from the steering position. The inboard autopilot has a joy-stick to facilitate harbour handling under power or steering while raining. Plenty of lockers are available and the dinghy can be placed on the aft. The clean deck plan is a joy to handle sails as well as for sunbathing.
Hull Shape and Design
The hull shape has been optimized to achieve the best combination of comfortable interior volume and load carrying capabilities, and slender and efficient bow entry angles for excellent seaworthiness and sailing abilities. This is a comfortable yacht that is able to carry enough goods and stores for long range voyaging, as well as provide excellent seaworthiness, safety, and sailing characteristics.
This is a boat that is designed for the true offshore sailor. Adria cat has relatively plumb bows and a very fine bow entry with semi-circular hull sections that gradually become fuller as we move aft towards the long stern stems. The powerful, wider aft stern sections increase load carrying ability and increase pitch dampening, thus keeping bows down in the water and allow them to easily slice rather than pound through waves and chop. The wide beam and low profile (low center of gravity) offer unmatched stability. Keeping the boat's weight centered also helps reduce pitching and improves stability and the overall motion and comfort aboard. High under-bridgedeck clearance of the Adria-cat 40 is critical to the seaworthiness like in all true ocean cruising catamarans. This allows waves to pass easily underneath the boat. Fixed keel system offer great directional stability (straight tracking), simplicity, reliability and protection for hauling out and beaching ability. Keels are thin and shallow and longer than most other cruising catamarans. These relatively low-draft keels, combined with wide maximum beam ensures that the catamaran is very seaworthy and will have no problem in heavy beam seas.
Engine
Twin diesel saildrives (20 PS) provide reliable harbour manoeuvring and good cruising speed at 6-7 knots.
The engines are in aft compartments completely isolated from the accommodation by a watertight bulkhead. Easy maintenance and no smells. The main advantage is silence, great autonomy and easy maintenance.
Adria-cat 40 is built in accordance with the European standards: category A (Ocean).
